Spartans Capture PCAA Bowling Championship

Owen Darby
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The NCC Spartans bowling team rebounded from a sub-par effort at the Eastern Pennsylavnia Collegiate Conference (EPCC) championships to win the 2010 PCAA state championship on Sunday.

Owen Darby won the All-Events title, including bowling his second 300 game of the season and setting a house-record with an 802 series during the singles competition. Darby's 806 series earlier in the season and his 802 at the PCAA's are both NCC records, breaking the old mark of 791 set by Kyle Hartzell during the 2001-02 season.

Darby teamed with Tim Silliman to win the doubles championship, edging out CCAC-Boyce, 1392 to 1351.

The title came down to the Baker Round of the tournament, where the Spartans fought back from a 90 pin deficit to take the title by 34 pins.

Team members include (high game during PCAA's); Brian White (203), Mike Jones (236), Ashley Alexander (219), Matt Miller (223), Tim Silliman (247) and Darby (300).

The championship is the first for the Spartans since the 2003 season.
