BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh Valley products
Josh Vargas and
Ashley Slater earned All-Region accolades on Monday, with Vargas being named to the second team and Slater taking third team honors.
Vargas, who ranks 6th in the country in scoring at 23.3ppg, finished his freshman season at NCC with 583 points, which places him second in school history for points in a season.
The Faith Christian High School grad, shot 55% from the field, 41% from 3-point range and averaged 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
"Josh had a tremendous season," commented Head Coach Kevin Foley, "I am very happy for him, he definitely deserved to be recognized by the Region for his outstanding season."
Slater, who ranks 8th in the country in steals at 3.7 per game, set a Northampton record earlier this season when she recorded 11 steals vs. Sussex County Community College on February 2nd.
The 5'3" point guard led the Spartans in assists at 3.0 per game, while averaging 5.2 rebounds and 9.8 points per game.
A graduate of William Allen High School, Slater helped guide the Lady Spartans to a 10-10 Region XIX record, which qualified the team for the playoffs in their first season of NJCAA competition.
"Ashley was the heart and soul of our team," replied Head Coach
Art Wolfe, "plain and simple, without her we do not make the postseason."
The Lady Spartans, seeded 7th, will travel to 2nd seeded Passaic County Community College on February 23rd to face the Panthers at 7:00pm.
