Winter Storm Poised to Wreak Havoc on Spartans Schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - As the Lehigh Valley prepares for the upcoming severe winter storm set to hit the area this evening, the Northampton men's and women's basketball teams find themselves in a scheduling nightmare.

With Regional playoffs just around the corner, teams need to have all the regular season games completed prior to the seeding meeting scheduled for February 19th at 1:00pm.  Both the men's and women's teams have four games remaining on their respective schedules, but with the last two games(Brookdale and Atlantic Cape) postponed, the Spartans are running out of available dates.

"We are working diligently with the Region, and the opposing athletic directors, to ensure that we get our games in," remarked NCC Director of Athletics Troy Tucker, "we have rescheduled the Brookdale doubleheader for February 16th and I hope to be speaking with Mike Rennick at Atlantic Cape shortly to reschedule that as well."

The issue at hand for Northampton is the impending severe weather poised to hit the area tonight and Wednesday, which could cause travel issues on Thursday when the Spartans are set to travel to Cumberland County College in Vineland, NJ.

"If we can get Cumberland in on Thursday and Camden on Saturday, I feel pretty good that we can find a date for Atlantic Cape," replied Tucker, "obviously things get a little dicey if we get postponed on Thursday."

In order to qualify for the Region XIX playoffs, a team must have either a .500 record overall or in Region XIX play.  The men's team is currently 9-14 overall and 7-11 in Region XIX and must finish 4-0 in order to qualify for the postseason, while the women's team is 9-13 overall and 8-8 in Region XIX and must finish at least 2-2 in order to qualify.
