BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Defense is usually a hallmark of all Sam Carrodo coached teams, however in game one of Saturday's Region XIX doubleheader vs. Camden County College, the Spartans committed five errors in a 5-3 loss to the Cougars.
"I don't even know where to start," commented Carrodo, "that was so unlike us to boot the ball around, especially in the outfield, but give Camden credit they took advantage of our mistakes and won the game."
Camden had a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th inning when
Ashley Venturino tripled and then scored on a fielders choice by
Alexis Jordan, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Cougars responded with a run in the top of the 6th to make the lead 5-1.
Tiffany Kobordo tripled to lead off the bottom of the 6th for NCC and then scored on a single by
Gina Falco. Pinch-runner
Jennifer Denaro then scored on a double by
Kate Check cutting the lead to 5-3, where it would remain.
Krysten Rockovits (6-2) took the loss for Northampton.
In Game two, the Spartans scored a run in the bottom of the second as Check doubled and then scored on a double by
Erin LaBar to take a 1-0 lead.
The Spartans added two insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th as Jordan led off the inning with a double, followed by a bunt single from
Casey Ord which put Jordan on third. Jordan then scored the Spartans second run on a sacrifice fly by Kobordo and Ord finished the scoring, stealing home on a passed ball, giving NCC a 3-0 lead.
Lindsay Frontino improved to 5-1 on the season, scattering four hits while striking out five and walking only one.
NCC, now 17-5 overall and 10-2 in conference play, travels to Atlantic Cape Community College on April 11th for doubleheader starting at noon.
