Foley Signs Willam Penn Trio

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton men's basketball coach Kevin Foley has announced the signing of a trio of players from William Penn High School (York, Pa) to his 2010-11 recruiting class.

Malcolm Murray, Ryan Matthews and Tyvon Efferson were all members of the William Penn team that advanced to the 2009 state championship game.

"This is great group," stated Foley, "the thing I like about them is that they know how to win.  I think knowing how to win is such an overlooked aspect in recruiting.  Playing in Coach Sowers' system they are fundamentally sound and will make an immediate impact for us."

Murray, a 6'5", 180lb forward, led his high school team in rebounding at 7.1 rpg and blocks at 2.3 bpg.  "Malcolm will provide us a shot-blocking threat and a very athletic rebounder," remarked Foley.

Matthews is a 6'2" guard who was named First Team All County and averaged 17.0 ppg, along with 6.0 rpg and 4.0 apg.  "Ryan will be a great complement to Josh Vargas," stated Foley, "he will provide us with a legitimate outside threat."

Efferson, a 6'6" 215 forward/center averaged 7.0 rebounds per game and provided a tough inside presence for Wiliam Penn.  "Tyvon's size and strength are something we really lacked last season," said Foley, "he has tremendous potential."

The Spartans finished the 2009-10 (their first in the NJCAA), with a record of 11-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play.
