Yaguez Announces First Signee of 2011 Class

Galeton's Talas Mahon
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Baseball coach Adrian Yaguez has announced  that Talas Mahon, from Galeton Area High School in Galeton, PA, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Northampton Community College.

Mahon, a left-handed pticher and first baseman, collected 23 wins over a four year career at Galeton, finishing his senior season with a 3.86 ERA while striking out 48 batters in 33 2/3 innings.

"We are very excited to sign Talas, this is a great start to addressing our needs as we begin to prepare for next season," commented Yaguez.  "Talas is a great character kid with a ton of baseball ability.  His experience in national tournament play with the Virginia Mavericks and Altoona Junior Curves, in addition to his high school careeer, will pay huge dividends as he prepares to compete in the NJCAA and Region XIX.

Mahon, Galeton's Athlete of the Year, also batted an impressive .462 with 6 HR's, 37 RBI and was a perfect 8 for 8 in stolen bases.

"I'm am really looking forward to getting Talas here in the Fall and start working with him," echoed Yaguez, "not only will he play a major role in the pitching staff, but with his bat, he will see time at first base or at DH."

Northampton finished the 2009-10 campaign  with a 20-21 record, advancing to the Region XIX Final Four in only their second season of NJCAA competition.
