Taylor Signs with Spartans

Coach Yaguez with Greg Taylor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton Community College baseball coach Adrian Yaguez has announced the signing of Greg Taylor to a National Letter of Intent.

Taylor, a 6'4", 230lb right-handed pitcher, went 3-4 this season with a 4.27 ERA for Freedom High School, with 35 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work.

Taylor threw a complete game one-hitter in a 3-1 victory over District 11 runner-up Parkland and earned the win in a two-hit shutout of District 11 champion Pleasant Valley on March 25th.

Also adept at the plate, Taylor batted .439 with 21 RBI, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 2 homeruns.

"We are very excited to add Greg to our club as he brings a ton of ability and helps address our primary need on the mound," remarked Yaguez, "Greg is a competitor and is willing to work hard to get better.  He has a mid-80's fastball with good command of all of us pitches and we expect him to be competing for time on the mound for us.  In addition, he can swing the bat and play first base, which gives us a ton of flexibility."

Taylor is also an accomplished football kicker, as he was selected to participate in the McDonald's Lehigh Valley All-Star Football Classic.

The Spartans finished the 2010 season with a 20-21 record, advancing to the NJCAA Region XIX Final Four in just their second season of competition.
