BETHLEHEM, Pa. - NCC baseball coach Adrian Yaguez has announced the signing of Anthony Casciano to a National Letter of Intent.
Casciano, a two-sport standout at Pius X High School in Rosetto, Pa, starred as both a quarterback and pitcher for the Royals during his scholastic career.
Casicano earned Class A First Team All-State Honors at quarterback as a senior, completing 155 of 296 passes for 2,307 yards and 20 TD's, leading the Royals to a 9-3 record.
On the diamond, Casciano, a 2009 Express-Times First Team selection as a junior, turned in an equally impressive senior campaign, finishing 6-3 on the mound with a 3.23 ERA in 47 innings of work. Casciano also saw time at third base, batting .379 with 3 homeruns and 24 RBI. The Royals finished the 2010 campaign with a 17-6 campaign, winning the Class A District 11 championship and falling in the state semi-finals to eventual champion Christopher Dock, 4-2.
"Anthony is a proven winner and that is something you can't coach," remarked Yaguez, "he has that instilled in him and we are excited to welcome him to our program. He gives us another strong arm on the mound, bringing an upper 80's fastball and sharp curveball. In addition, his ability to play corner infield gives us flexibility in our lineup."
The Spartans finished the 2010 season with a record of 20-21, falling in the Region XIX Final Four.
