BETHLEHEM, Pa. - NCC baseball coach
Adrian Yaguez has announced the signing of Parkland High School's
Matt Smith to a National Letter of Intent.
Smith, a standout right-hander, led the Trojans to a 17-7 campaign, including a LVC North Division title and a runner-up finish in District 11. Smith finished the season with a 6-3 record with a 2.11 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 53 innings of work.
"We are very excited to announce that Matt has chosen to further his academic and athletic pursuits at NCC," remarked Yaguez, "Matt will be a top arm for us ... his bulldog mentality and presence on the mound will be tremendous assets as he enters the NJCAA."
Smith also helped lead North Parkland to a Senior Legion League championship and a berth in the District 2 American Legion state tournament this summer. North Parkland finished the American Legion season with a 21-9 record, with Smith picking up the team's lone win in the state tournament.
Northampton is entering their third season as a member of the NJCAA, finishing the 2010 season with a 20-21 overall mark.
