Lynn Announces 2010 Volleyball Roster

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton women's volleyball coach Missy Lynn has announced her 2010 roster, which includes four returners from last season's 11-9 squad which finished 2nd in the EPCC.

Returning for the Spartans as they enter their first season of NJCAA Region XIX competition are; Amanda Lynch, Holli Capricuso, Karla Diekman and Tanya Spitzel.

Lynch, a 5'3" graduate of Freedom High School, who earned All-Conference and All-State accolades last season, will play a major role in the success of the Spartans according to Coach Lynn, "Amanda was really a big part of our success last season and we need her to be a leader both on and off the court this year for us to be successful."

Capricuso, a 5'7" graduate of Pleasant Valley High School, battled through an injury-plagued freshman campaign, but Coach Lynn sees her playing a more prominent role this season, "Holli will be a tremendous help if we can keep her healthy, last season was very difficult for her dealing with all the injuries."

Diekman, who earned NJCAA Academic All-American Honors last season, will be counted on for her consistent play at the net, "Karla is a steadying influence on the other girls," remarked Lynn, "she is very consistent game to game, she is someone I know I can count on to produce."

Spitzel, a graduate of East Stroudsburg South, returns in the libero position.  "Tanya is an excellent defensive player," commented Lynn, "her club experience and willingness to sacrifice her body makes her an invaluable member of this team."

Newcomers to the Spartans include; Sabrina Gonzalez (Freedom), Emily Canfield (Faith Christian), Shanna Hoben (Tamaqua) and Courtney Rice (Pocono Mt. West).

The Spartans open the 2010 campaign on September 11th at the Lackawanna College Invitational being held in Forks Township, PA.
