The Program - Men's Soccer

2025 was a tough season for the Spartans, as they finished a disappointing 2-11-2 overall, and failed to qualify for the postseason.  The Spartans talent showed at points throughout the season, including during a 4-4 tie with nationally-ranked Raritan Valley Community College in October.

The 2024 season was an up-and-down one for the Spartans, as they finished 6-7-2 overall, their first losing record since 2018.  Northampton finished in a 3-way tie for the EPAC Championship and earned the #8 seed for the NJCAA District Tournament, where they fell to #9 Montgomery, 1-0.

The Spartans completed the 2023 season with an overall record of 7-7-1, finishing as the EPAC runner-up with a mark of 5-2-1.  Northampton earned the #10 seed for the Region 19 playoffs, where they upset 7th seeded Montgomery, 2-1, after losing twice to the Mustangs during the regular season.  Nic McCoy garnered All-Region honors, scoring 9 goals and dishing out 8 assists.

Barrantes guided the Northampton men's soccer team to a breakout season in 2022, finishing 10-3-2 overall, falling in the Region 19 playoffs to eventual champion Raritan Valley, 1-0.  The Spartans earned their first-ever national ranking, moving up as high as #7 during the season.  Hatungimana Salem earned EPAC Player of the Year honors and First Team All Region accolades for the second consecutive season, while Coach Barrantes was named EPAC Coach of the Year, after leading the Spartans to their second straight EPAC title.

After missing the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Northampton Men's Soccer team returned with a vengeance in 2021, finishing with a 6-4-1 record overall, including a 4-1-1 mark over their last six games.  Head Coach Mario Barrantes was named EPAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Spartans to the conference championship with a 3-0-1 mark.  Hatungimana Salem was named EPAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Region, while Gabe Lawler earned All-Conference honors and was named 3rd Team All-Region.

2019 saw the Spartans return to glory as Head Coach Mario Barrantes piloted Northampton to a runner-up finish in the EPAC and a berth in the Region XIX playoffs.  Led by a strong freshman class, the Spartans finished 9-3-0 in conference play and 11-7-0 overall, earning the #8 seed for the Regional playoffs.  Stivan Kumbarov and Nick Mazzella both earned All-EPAC and All-Region honors, while Jean-Claude Pabulo and Mehmed Letifov both were named to the All-EPAC Second Team. Kumbarov scored 22 goals, the 5th most in a single-season in program history.

Andrew Tinna was the top story for the Spartans in 2018, as he finished 4th all-time in career goals at Northampton with 34.  The Spartans struggled through a 4-9-0 campaign under first-year head coach Mario Barrantes, as Tinna netted 13 goals to lead the offense.  Tinna earned Third Team All Region honors and was a repeat First Team All Conference selection.  Joining Tinna on the All Conference team were second team selections; Abdallah Ferdjani, Kevin Acosta and Ayouba Sheriff.

The 2017 campaign was a roller-coaster for the Men's Soccer team, as a mid-year coaching change saw Brennan McCarthy make a comeback to the sidelines, after hanging up his cleats on the heels of back-to-back EPAC Championships.  McCarthy took over in the midst of a 3-game losing streak and guided the Spartans to a 4-4-0 record during his tenure (the Spartans finished 6-7-1) and a berth in the Region XIX playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year.  Freshman Andrew Tinna was named Third Team All Region and First Team All Conference, leading the Spartans with 21 goals.

2015 and 2016 under Head Coach Brennan McCarthy saw the Men's Soccer go 24-8 overall and 22-2 in conference play.  The 2016 squad went undefeated in the EPAC, led by Player of the Year Joey Jacona.  Jacona broke the all-time scoring record, finishing his career with 47 goals.  Sam Gaye and Kenan Meral joined Jacona on the All-Conference Team, while Jacona was a Second Team All-Region selection as well.  The 7th seeded Spartans were upset in the Region XIX Playoffs, jumping out to a 2-0 lead over 10th seeded Bucks, before falling 3-2.

Head Coach Brennan McCarthy led the Spartans back to the postseason in 2015, leading Northampton to a 11-5-0 record.  The Spartans captured a share of the EPAC championship, qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2012 and upset Union County College in the playoffs, before falling to eventual region champion Bergen Community College in the semi-finals.  Baidy Ba, Joey Jacona and Sam Gaye were named All-Region and All-Conference as the Spartan's offense was ranked in the top five in the country for goals per game. McCarthy guided the Spartans to a 3-10-0 record during his first season in 2014, mentoring Brian Garcia to First Team All-EPAC Honors.

Joe Heitczman, a former East Stroudsburg University assistant, took the reigns of NCC soccer in early 2012 and guided the program to a 4-5-3 conference record, just missing the Region XIX playoffs.  Jose Matute was named First Team All-Conference and Third Team All-Region. Heitczman led the Spartans back to the postseason in 2013, finishing with a 7-4-1 conference record, falling in overtime in the first round of the Region XIX playoffs to Bucks County Community College.

Ned Yelovich was hired in April 2010 and given the task of leading NCC into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).  Yelovich's first year was a success as the Spartans rebounded from a 1-5-1 start to finish 10-5-4, falling in the Region XIX Final Four in a shootout to Ocean County College.  Year two was filled with injuries and setbacks as the Spartans limped to a 2-14-1 record, missing the Regional playoffs.

Erik Daly was hired as the Spartans head coach in the summer of 2008 and promptly guided NCC to a 16-1-0 record, the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) regular season title and a runner-up finish in the PCAA state championship.  The Spartans scored a school record 80 goals (5.0 goals per game) and allowed a paltry 13 goals against (0.81 per game) with nine shutouts during the 2008 campaign.  Daly returned in 2009 to lead NCC to a 14-5-0 mark, culminating with the PCAA championship victory over Harrisburg Area Community College.

Hall of Fame coach Ed Csongradi guiding the program to a 70-44-4 record during his tenure, including the program's first PCAA state championship in 2006.
