Northampton Athletics, under the direction of Athletic Director Troy Tucker, has made a renewed commitment to community service and volunteerism.
During the 2008-09 school year, over 70% of the varsity athletes, coaches and staff participated in some form of community service or volunteer project. "While I was thrilled with the support I received from our athletes and staff on this important initiative, I am striving for 100% participation this year," stated Tucker.
2008-09 Community Service included:
*Over 40 volunteers working at the Via / Lehigh Valley Health Netork Marathon
*Softball team members participating in the Light the Night Walk hosted at NCC
*Baseball team members volunteering at the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley
*Various athletes and staff participating in a service learning project with the Easton Boys Home
*Women's Basketball volunteering during the VIA All-Star Basketball Classic hosted at NCC
*Golf and Baseball team members volunteering to help with the NCC Foundation Golf Tournament
"Our athletes have an opportunity to impact so many people in a positive way," remarked Tucker, " ... it is our job as educators to show these young men and women the importance of giving back and being part of the community."
2009-10 Community Service
*66 student-athletes, coaches and staff volunteered at the Via/Lehigh Valley Health Network Marathon on September 13, 2009
*Members of the baseball team volunteered to help students and their families on move-in day at the residence halls.
*Members of the Women's Volleyball team volunteered with the Bethlehem Special Olympics volleyball team.
*Women's Softball team participated in the Light the Night Walk hosted at NCC
*Members of the Baseball and Men's Basketball teams volunteered with the Easton Children's Home throughout the 2009-10 school year.
*Director of Athletics Troy Tucker named Chairman of the 2010 VIA All-Star Basketball Classic.
*NCC hosted the 2010 VIA All-Star Basketball Classic on March 28, 2010, drawing over 2000 spectators
*Tucker earns VIA "Board Chairs Award" for his work with children with disabilities
