BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The
nationally ranked Northampton Women's Volleyball team improved to 9-0 with a 25-14, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15 win over rival Raritan Valley Community College on Monday evening in the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans were led by Freshman
Kyra Miller (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) with 10 kills, 3 digs and 4 blocks followed by
Sophia Tyma (Bethlehem, PA/Lehigh Valley Academy) with 7 kills and 7 blocks as the Spartans dominated play at the front of the net.
Grace Coppola (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) was equally as strong on the front row with 4 kills, 5 digs and a game high 14 blocks.
Samantha Nagy (Easton, PA/Easton) recorded 26 assists, 8 digs and 4 service aces while
Gianna Sciarra (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) continued her strong play in the back row with 27 digs.
"Really proud of our team tonight," explained Head Coach
Rachael Aquila following the win, "We put together a strong overall effort against a talented Raritan Valley team. We know we may see them again down the road. This was a good test tonight and we responded well."
Northampton, who held their #8 ranking for the second straight week in the NJCAA national poll, improves to 9-0 overall with the win over the Lions.
Raritan Valley slips to 5-6 overall with the loss.
The Spartans will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Newton, NJ to take on the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College at 6pm.
