CRANFORD, NJ - The Northampton Men's Soccer team early season struggles continued on Tuesday evening as the Spartans fell to 0-3-0 with an 8-0 loss at Union College. The Spartans trailed 3-0 at the half and the Owls put the game away with five second half goals for their second win to open the young season.
"Another tough loss," remarked Spartans Head Coach
Mario Barrantes following the match, "we felt good going in and for whatever reason we just couldn't get things going and found ourselves down 3 goals at the half. Give Union credit, they controlled the tempo from the outset and we just didn't have an answer. We have some time to regroup before we play again and we will get back to work tomorrow and strive to get things on track for our team."
Union Goalkeeper Marvin Guerreo had 7 saves for the shutout for the Owls.
Theo Jenkins (Phillipsburg, NJ/Nazareth) faced 16 shots and made 8 saves in the loss for the Spartans.
Northampton falls to 0-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in Region 19.
Union is now 2-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Region 19.
The Spartans are off until next Tuesday, September 9th, when they host the Mustangs of Montgomery County Community College at 4pm.
