Nationally Ranked Men's Basketball Surges Past Bergen, 103-50

PARAMUS, NJ - The Nationally Ranked Northampton Men's Basketball team used a second half 61 point offensive explosion on Tuesday night to surge past Bergen Community College, 103-50.

Northampton, ranked 10th in the most recent NJCAA national poll, found themselves in a tight contest with the Bulldogs after the first 20 minutes of play and heading into the intermission with an 11 point lead, 42-31.

"Solid effort tonight," commented Spartans Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "I thought we played hard in the first half but felt we really regrouped and found ourselves as soon as we got back on the floor for the second half. Great to see a lot of guys getting in the mix on the offensive side and very pleased how we locked things down on defense."

The Spartans found another gear after the intermission and exploded for 61 points while holding Bergen to only 19 to put the game out of reach. Kevin Rucker (Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner Prendergast) led 6 Spartans in double figures, as the sophomore guard hit for 13 points and 2 steals. Guard Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) scored 12 and dished off 11 assists for the double-double while Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East High School) scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds. Forwards Mekhi Shillingford (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood High School) and Deyishon Miller (Philadelphia, PA/West Philadelphia High School) each scored 11 points each with Shillingford grabbing 7 rebounds and Miller grabbing 5 boards and collecting 3 assists. Freshman Julian Bair (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) added 10 points and was 3-3 from the foul line.

The Spartans improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 19.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the Region.

The Spartans are back on the floor on Saturday, November 15th when they travel to Toms River, NJ for a Region 19 match up with Ocean County College at 2pm at the Vikings HPEC Center.
