TOMS RIVER, NJ - The 10th Ranked Northampton Men's Basketball team picked up a hard fought Region 19 victory on Saturday afternoon, slipping past the Ocean County College Vikings, 81-75.
The Spartans leaned on an outstanding offensive effort from sophomore point guard
Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) to lead the way for Coach
Brennan McCarthy and his squad. The win is the 5th straight for the Spartans to open the 2025-26 campaign. The Spartans trailed at the intermission, 35-34, and pulled out the win with another strong second half, outscoring the Vikings, 47-40.
"Tough battle today," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "It was a fight from the start and I was pleased to see how we hung in there and found a way. It is always good to be tested early in the year and I felt we rose to the challenge. We hit the big shots when we needed to and got out of here with the win."
Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) hit for a season-high 33 points to lead the Spartans. Cobb was 8-16 from beyond the arc and 5-6 from the foul line. Freshman
Julian Bair (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) recorded the double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds while
Mekhi Shillingford (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood High School) chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Guard
Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East High School) had 7 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 4-4 from the foul line.
Anniel Pichardo (Reading, PA/Downey Christian School) scored 5 points and had 7 rebounds in the win.
Northampton improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 19.
Ocean stands at 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the Region.
The Spartans will be back on the hardwood on Tuesday, November 18th when they host RCSJ-Cumberland at 7pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
