BETHLEHEM, PA - Sophomore
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded 6 kills, 10 digs and 2 service aces to lead the Northampton Women's Volleyball team to a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-12, 25-11) over visiting PSU-Lehigh Valley on Thursday evening at the Arthur L.Scott Center.
Freshman
Gianna Sciarra (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) nailed a team-high 5 service aces along with 6 digs,
Emily Marcial (Allentown, PA/Executive Charter) added 4 aces and 5 digs and Sophomore setter
Samantha Nagy (Easton, PA/Easton) collected 17 assists, 2 aces and 3 digs for the Spartans, who received votes in the NJCAA National Poll this week.
"I was pleased with our effort and it is nice to get our season started," explained Spartans Head Coach
Rachael Aquila after the win. "Our team has been working hard to get to this point and it was nice to get on the floor and compete. I am excited for our season." Aquila, who is in her 5th season (54-22) leading the Spartans, has her eyes set on another run to the Region 19 championship and trip to the NJCAA National Tournament. "That is always the goal, " explained Aquila, "that is what we are working towards."
Northampton improved to 1-0 with the win, while PSU-Lehigh Valley fell to 0-1.
The Spartans will be back on the floor in the Spartan Center on Saturday as they host a tri-match, facing Genesee CC at 11am and Nassau CC at 3pm.
