SCRANTON, Pa. - The nationally ranked, and undefeated, Northampton women's volleyball team pulled out a thrilling five set win on the road Friday evening, downing NJCAA D2 Lackawanna College (19-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-11), storming back to win 3 straight sets and grab their fifth consecutive win to start the season.
Sophomore outside hitter
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) had a big night for the Spartans, recording a career high 22 kills along with 7 digs to lead the comeback win.
Sophia Tyma (Bethlehem, PA/Lehigh Valley Academy) added 10 kills and a solo block while
Grace Coppola (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) had 5 kills and 8 blocks.
Samantha Nagy (Easton, PA/Easton) collected 40 assists and 9 digs and
Gianna Sciarra (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) patrolled the back row adding 35 digs and 5 service aces.
"Big comeback win tonight," explained Head Coach
Rachael Aquila, "we had a slow start, but we battled through it. We showed we can battle back and compete for each point and that is something that will help us down the road and as we get deeper into the season."
Northampton, ranked 11th in the most recent NJCAA national poll, improves to 5-0 overall with the win.
Lackawanna College falls to 1-4 on the season.
The Spartans will be back in action on Monday, September 8th at the Arthur L. Scott Center when they host Region 19 foe Bergen Community College at 6pm.
