BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC women's volleyball season came to an abrupt end on Saturday, as the second seeded Spartans were upset by Passaic County Community College, 3-2, in the Region XIX semifinals.
The Spartans looked dominating in taking the first set 25-13, but the Panthers rebounded, winning the second set 25-22. NCC regained the advantage with a 25-20 victory in the third set, but Passaic rallied to take game four, 25-19 and then won a thrilling 5th set, 18-16.
"It is the unfortunate side of a tournament setting," lamented NCC Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "the potential to be one and done ... unfortunately today we did not play our best and Passaic played to win, they were a confident group. While today is obviously depressing, if I look at the season in total, it was a great year ... to tie for the regular season championship, to earn a national ranking ... it all exceeded my expectations."
Montgomery County Community College captured the Region XIX championship, while NCC's
Kelly Yagerhofer was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Spartans finish the season with a record of 15-2.
