BLUE BELL, Pa. - Northampton Community College rallied from an 11-4 deficit in the fifth and deciding game to take a 16-14 victory and earn a thrilling 3-2 win over Montgomery County Community College on Monday night in Region XIX volleyball action.
The matchup of the two unbeatens looked to be a mismatch at first as the Mustangs took game one 25-8. NCC then bounced back with a 25-15 victory in game two, before MontCo took a 2-1 lead with a 25-17 win in game three.
The Spartans evened the match at 2-2 with a 25-17 victory in game four, setting up the thrilling deciding fifth game.
NCC Athlete of the Week
Kelly Yagerhofer recorded 11 kills, 2 aces and 8 digs,
Halie Cintron added 22 assists, 5 aces and 4 kills and
Sabrina Gonzalez notched 12 digs for Northampton.
"It was a great college volleyball match," remarked NCC Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "the crowd really took us out of the first game, but the girls rebounded and began to play our style. Montgomery is very talented ... we feel very good about getting out of here with a victory."
Northampton, which improves to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in Region XIX, takes over sole possession of first place in the Region with the victory.
Montgomery falls to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in Region XIX.
NCC returns to action on September 22nd when they host NJCAA Division II Harcum College at 6:00pm.
