MAYS LANDING, NJ - The Region XIX volleyball committee has announced that Northampton's
Emily Koehler has been named Player of the Year, in a vote conducted by the league coaches.
Koehler, a freshman from Northampton Area School District, leads the undefeated Spartans in kills with 247 and ranks second nationally in hitting percentage at .463. Â Named MVP of the prestigious Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament in Syracuse, NY, Koehler also has 43 blocks and 47 service aces.
Koehler follows former Spartan Kelly Yagerhofer who was named Region XIX Player of the Year last season.
Joining Koehler on the First Team are teammates
Anna Domyan (Bethlehem Catholic) and
Ashley McCauley (Bethlehem Catholic), Liz Herezi and Kendall Gazzo of Montgomery County Community College and Harrisburg's Ameleah Moyer.
Domyan, the 2012 Region XIX Tournament MVP, is a repeat First Team All-Region selection and leads NCC in digs with 208 and service aces (78) and ranks third with 230 kills.
McCauley, another repeat selection on the First Team, holds the Northampton records for assists in a career (1459) and a season (820) and has recorded 108 digs and 64 service aces this season.
The Spartans, 30-0, defeated Bergen Community College, 3-0, last night in the first round of the Region XIX playoffs and will now compete in the Final Four at Montgomery County Community College on Saturday October 26th. Â NCC will face 5th ranked Passaic County Community College in the first semi-final at 12pm, while Harrisburg and Montgomery will square off in the other semi-final.
