BLUE BELL, Pa. - Northampton won its second consecutive Region XIX volleyball championship with a convincing 3-0 victory over 2nd seeded Montgomery County Community College on Saturday at Bach Gymnasium.
Northampton, the #1 seed, downed 5th seeded Passaic County Community College in the semi-finals 25-7, 25-9, 25-8 to advance to the finals vs. Montgomery, who swept 3rd seeded Harrisburg Area Community College in the other semi.
Barbara Dimon (Pine Grove) and
Emily Koehler (Northampton) each registered 11 kills and
Ashley McCauley (Bethlehem Catholic) recorded 29 assists vs. Passaic, as the Panthers ended their season with an overall record of 10-10.
Northampton swept Montgomery 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 to improve to 32-0 on the season and advance to the NJCAA District H championship next weekend vs. Sandhills Community College (NC) at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center, starting at noon.
In the championship match McCauley had 31 assists,
Samantha Bertasavage (Pine Grove) notched 12 digs and
Lindsey Kizer (Nazareth) had 7 digs to lead NCC vs. Montgomery.
Ashley McCauley was named Tournament MVP, while
Barbara Dimon,
Emily Koehler, and
Anna Domyan were each named to the All-Tournament Team along with Ameleah Moyer of Harrisburg and Liz Herezi of Montgomery. In addition, Northampton Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez was named Region XIX Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
