Volleyball Captures BC3 Invitational Title

BUTLER, Pa. - The Northampton Volleyball team, ranked 8th in the NJCAA preseason poll, opened the 2014 season on Saturday with a bang, winning the Butler County Community College Invitational, finishing with a 4-0 record, while not dropping a set.

The Spartans opened play vs. 6th ranked Jamestown Community College and downed the Jayhawks 25-19, 25-14.  The Spartans then topped Cecil College 25-16, 25-10, Butler 25-13, 25-15 and Allegany College of Maryland 25-16, 25-20.

Sophomore All-American Emily Koehler was named tournament MVP, while freshman Leah Redline was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Koehler totaled 36 kills and 12 digs on the day, while Anona Bauman recorded 86 assists.  Jax Babezki had a team-high 12 kills vs. Butler, while Redline added 7 digs in that match.

The Spartans are now 76-4 all-time under 4th year head coach Adrian Yaguez, losing only one regular season match (October 17, 2011) during his tenure.

Northampton (4-0) opens up their home schedule on Tuesday September 2nd when they host Bucks County Community College at 7:00pm in the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.
