BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team shot 49% from the field in the first half and sprinted out to a 46-31 lead at halftime and never looked back in downing Montgomery County Community College, 88-72, on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.Â
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) and
Edwin Lopez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg ) both recorded double-doubles, with Mann scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while Lopez scored 13 points and grabbed a season-high 14 boards. Â Northampton recorded 21 assists on their 35 field goals, with
Bryson Walton (Allentown, PA /William Allen ) and
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA /Pennsbury ) each dishing out 7 assists. Â
"I thought we did a good job tonight finding the open man and we knocked down shots," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "that's the big difference from Saturday when we got looks, but simply could not put the ball in the basket."
The win propels Northampton to 8-9 overall, 6-9 in Region XIX and 6-6 in EPAC play.Â
Montgomery falls to 5-13 overall, 5-9 in Region XIX and 4-7 in conference.
The teams split the season series, with Montgomery winning in Blue Bell, 82-74, on November 17th.Â
Northampton travels to Toms River, NJ on Thursday to face the Vikings of Ocean County College. Â Tip is scheduled for 7pm.Â
