BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Northampton volleyball team captured their 5th consecutive Region Championship, downing 3rd seeded Montgomery County Community College, 25-10, 25-12, 25-23 on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, who defeated Montgomery twice during the regular season, were led by Tournament MVP
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) and All-Tournament Team member
Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley). Shelly had 19 kills and 10 digs, while Lozier added 6 kills, 5 digs and 3 blocks.
Rachael Caywood (Bath, PA/Nazareth ) had a strong performance with 7 kills, while
Megan Crimi (Nazareth, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) and
Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA /Pleasant Valley) combined for 26 digs.
Northampton advanced to the title match with a 3-0 victory over 5th seeded Harrisburg, downing the Hawks 25-16, 25-18, 25-13. Region XIX Player of the Year
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) had 10 kills and 6 digs,
Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) recorded 17 assists,
Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA /Pleasant Valley) had 14 digs and
Hannah Park (Snow Shoe, PA /Bald Eagle ) had 5 aces and 4 digs to lead Northampton. Harrisburg finishes the season with a record of 14-5.
Montgomery, which finishes 19-4 overall, advanced to the championship match with a 24-26, 26-24, 25-16, 25-13 victory over 2nd seeded Ocean County College in the second semifinal.
Northampton, now 29-1 will travel to Patrick Henry Community College, the Region X champion, on Saturday October 29th to compete for the District H championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.
