Volleyball Falls in Title Game of Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament

SYRACUSE, NY - After two long days of volleyball, the Northampton Volleyball team found themselves in the championship match of the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament vs. the host school, Onondaga Community College.  Despite a convincing win in the first set, 25-16, the Spartans dropped the second set 15-25 and the third, and deciding, set 7-15 to finish as the tournament runner-up for 2017.

"It was a great weekend of volleyball," commented Head Coach Lauren Kerr, "we saw some very good competition and I was very impressed with how the team performed, we really had some girls step up to fill some voids we had this weekend."

The Spartans, who went 2-0 on Friday, opened play on Saturday with a 22-25, 24-26 loss to Onondaga in pool play.  Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom ) had 8 kills and Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, PA/Upper Dauphin) added 6, while Brianna Bair (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) and Bridget Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) combined for 24 digs.

Saturday's second match was vs. long-time rival Monroe Community College from Rochester, NY.  Behind Sweger's 9 kills and 3 blocks the Spartans earned a 2-0 victory, downing the Tribunes 25-17, 25-20.  Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) added 24 assits and Bridget Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) recorded 14 digs. 

In the tournament semi-final, the Spartans downed Jefferson Community College (NY) 25-14, 25-22 to advance to the championship match.  Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom ) had 6 kills, as did Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, PA/Upper Dauphin), while Crimi added 16 digs.  

In the 2-1 loss in the championship match, All Tournament Selection Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom ) notched 7 kills, Taylor Womack (Effort, PA/Pocono Mt. East ) had 6 kills and 4 digs and Molchan registered 21 assists. 

The Spartans, now 20-4 overall, return to action on Tuesday October 10th when they travel to Montgomery County Community College for a Region XIX showdown with the Mustangs at 7pm.
