BETHLEHEM, Pa. - NJCAA Division II member County College of Morris overcame a 45-38 halftime deficit, outscoring Northampton 46-27 in the second half, to hand the Spartans their first loss of the season, 84-72, on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, who struggled from the floor, shot only 31% for the game and just 27% in the second half, as the Titans were able to pull away with the victory.
"Give Morris credit," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "they are a very solid team ... they were very physical and scrapped for every rebound and loose ball. I thought we played well in spurts, but they had a couple runs that we didn't match."
Carlos Gutierrez (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) led the Spartans with 20 points, while
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) 17 and
Arnel Lewis (Easton, Pa. /Easton) 15 joined him in double-figures.
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) grabbed 12 rebounds and Lewis added 3 blocks for Northampton.
The non-conference loss drops the Spartans to 10-1 overall, while Morris improves to 5-4.
Northampton returns to conference action on Saturday when they travel to Bucks County Community College for a 2:00pm contest.
