LINCROFT, NJ - The 3rd seeded Northampton men's basketball season came to a bitter-sweet end on Saturday night at Collins Arena, as 2nd seeded Brookdale defeated the Spartans 100-77 to advance to the Region XIX Championship game on Sunday vs. Camden County College.
It was a game of two halves, as the Spartans and Jersey Blues battled to a one-point standoff (40-39) in the first half, but Brookdale was able to find another gear in the second half, outscoring Northampton 60-38. "Give Brookdale credit, they are a very good team," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we knew would have to play well tonight to knock them off on their court and unfortunately we didn't shoot it quite well enough and they hurt us off the glass. I can't say enough about my guys ... we were sitting at 7-7 at break and they really came together and bought in, going 12-2 this semester and advancing to the Final Four. This group has set a great foundation for future teams."
The Spartans put five players in double figures, led by
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) with 14 points and 11 rebounds.Â
Edwin Lopez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg ),
Jerrel Burke (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ),
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) and
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) each finished with 13 in their final game as Spartans.
The Spartans finish the season at 19-9 overall.
