BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Northampton men's basketball team downed Lehigh Carbon Community College 103-75 on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans led by 20 at halftime, 53-33, and extended the lead to 36 with 11:09 remaining in the game, before settling on the final 28 point margin.
"Good win," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "not a great win, but a good one .... I thought our defensive intensity slipped a little in the second half, we need to be able to find that next level of internal motivation when we get a big lead ... we can't get comfortable."
Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), the 4th leading scorer in the country, dropped 31 points, while
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) had 17,
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA /Wilson West Lawn ) 18 and
Tyrese Stewart (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished with 15 as five Spartans finished in double figures.
The Spartans won the battle of the paint, outscoring Lehigh Carbon 50 to 28 and dominating the boards 45 to 30.
Northampton improves to 7-5 overall, 7-3 in Region XIX and 6-2 in the EPAC.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 2-9 overall, 2-7 in Region XIX and 2-5 in conference play.
The Spartans finish the semester on Thursday when they host Broome Community College (NY) at 7pm.
