Women's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season with 5-2 Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's soccer team wrapped up their regular season on Monday evening, downing Harrisburg Area Community College, 5-2, on sophomore day at Spartan Field. 

Harrisburg struck early, catching the Spartans off guard just 3 minutes into the contest as Beverly Mansaray snuck thru the defense and beat Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. 

Five minutes later, Grace Jacoby (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) found Danielle Besser (Long Pond, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) for the equalizer to make it 1-1.

Hannah Seltzer (Reading, PA /Schuylkill Valley) scored her team-leading 21st goal with 22:31 remaining before halftime giving Northampton a 2-1 lead at the break.

During halftime, sophomores Hannah Seltzer (Reading, PA /Schuylkill Valley), Grace Jacoby (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ), Angelique Herrera (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl), Victoria Collier (Bangor, PA /Bangor ), Christine Farrell (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) and Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) were each recognized for their careers with the Spartans. 

Christine Farrell (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) scored 3 minutes into the second stanza to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead and Angelique Herrera (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) added to the margin with a goal at the 25:11 mark. 

Harrisburg cut the margin to 4-2 with 21:30 remaining, but Herrera added an insurance goal with just over 8 minutes left to make the final 5-2.  Herrera finishes the regular season with 10 goals and 14 assists. 

Cassaro made 12 saves in goal to earn the win. 

The Spartans move to 10-3-0 overall and will now await the Region Soccer committee seeding on Wednesday morning. 

The 10 victories is a program record for the Spartans, as Northampton will enter the postseason 8-2 in Region XIX and 8-0 in conference play. 

Harrisburg finishes 2-8-0.
