BETHLEHEM, Pa. - 9th seeded Raritan Valley Community College used their size and speed to down #8 Northampton on Saturday afternoon, eliminating the Spartans from the postseason with a 4-0 victory.
The Lions led 1-0 at halftime and increased that to 2-0 midway through the second half, before the Spartans seemingly had cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal was disallowed and RVCC struck back quickly to make the score 3-0 and eliminating any momentum that the Spartans had gained.
"That one really took the wind out of our sails," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "it goes from potentially being 2-1, to us being down 3-0 within 30 seconds. We had opportunities, we simply didn't finish and they are too skilled for us to not take advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves."
RVCC (7-6-1) added a final tally, making the final 4-0. The Lions now advance to face #1 Camden County College on Wednesday in the second round of the Region XIX playoffs.
The Spartans finish the season 11-7-0.
