WAYNE, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team used a dominating defensive effort to earn a 64-52 victory over Valley Forge Military College on Saturday afternoon at the Casey Center.
The Spartans limited VFMC to 21 first half points as they built an 11-point halftime lead.
"Defensively we were really locked in today," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "offensively we are still getting our rhythm, but the guys were very focused on the defensive end today."
Raylil Law-Winton (Pennsbury, PA/Pennsbury) and
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg ) each scored 13 points to lead Northampton, while
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA/Wilson West Lawn) added 10.
Nazir Gossette (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civics & Sciences Charter) pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds and
Stephon Sheard (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) added 5 boards for the Spartans.
The win moves Northampton to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Region XIX and and 1-0 in the EPAC.
Valley Forge falls to 1-1 overall, 1-1 in the Region and 0-1 in conference play.
The Spartans have a quick turn-around as they host the Misericordia JV on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.
