BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a NJCAA Top-15 showdown, 14th ranked Montgomery County Community College used a strong second half surge to down 10th ranked Northampton, 90-68, on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Mustangs, who trailed 36-31 at the break, outscored the Spartans 59-32 in the second stanza to earn a season split of their series.
"Credit Montgomery, they played a very good game," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I thought we did a good job on the defensive end in the first half, but we came out of the locker room a little flat and Montgomery took advantage and made some big plays."
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg ) led Northampton with 19 points and 12 rebounds while
Marquise McClean (York, PA/William Penn ) finished with 12.
Kymir Roper (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby ) added 5 points and 6 rebounds for the Spartans.
The loss drops the Spartans to 21-3 overall, 17-3 in Region XIX and 11-2 in the EPAC.
Montgomery improves to 20-4 overall, 16-3 in Region XIX and 12-2 in the Conference.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround, as they are back in action Saturday at Thaddeus Stevens College, with tip-off set for 1pm.
