Spartans Clinch EPAC Title with 3-1 Win Over Delaware

MEDIA, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team clinched their 3rd EPAC championship in program history with a 3-1 victory over Delaware County Community College on Thursday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Coach Mario Barrantes was forced to make some lineup changes due to an injury to Dominic Martucci.  Barrantes inserted Sebastian Sanchez (Queens, NY/Parkland ) on defense and moved Sohaib Aglaguel (Casablanca, Morocco/Moulay Idriss) to outside midfielder, which seemed to spark the Spartan offense

Javier Reyes (Allentown, PA/Dieruff ) found Gabe Lawler (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) in the 70th minute, who found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Aglaguel scored a goal 8 minutes later, off a through ball from Hatungimana Salem (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ), to give Northampton a 2-1 lead.

Derek Filipkowski (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) added an insurance goal at the 80 minute mark, with an assist from Aglaguel, to make the final score 3-1.

Drake Brackett (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) and Koda Whalen (Llewellyn, PA/Minersville Area) combined for 15 saves between the pipes as the Spartans improved to 5-4-1 overall, 4-3-1 in Region 19 and 3-0-1 in EPAC play.

The loss drops Delaware County to 3-6-0 overall.

Northampton, which also won EPAC titles in 2015 and 2016, returns to the pitch on Saturday when they host Middlesex College at 1pm.
