BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team picked up their second consecutive victory, downing Montgomery County Community College 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Henry Pineda (Allentown, PA/Dieruff ) broke a 0-0 deadlock, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Gabe Lawler (Bangor, PA/Bangor ), at the 65 minute mark.
The Spartans out-shot the Mustangs 15-9, with Northampton goalkeeper
Wingate Hopkins (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Ponte Vedra (FL)) stopping 4 shots to earn his first collegiate shutout.
"Today was a great confidence-building win for this team," stated Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "I thought it was our best 90-minute effort and we really had some players step up today and make some plays."
The win moves Northampton to 2-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Region 19.
Montgomery falls to 0-2-1 overall.
Northampton now leads the all-time series vs. Montgomery 11-10-2.
The Spartans return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to nationally-ranked RCSJ-Gloucester for a 12pm matchup.
