BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 2nd seeded Northampton men's basketball team advanced to the Region 19 semifinals with an 87-74 victory over 7th seeded Middlesex College on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
In a back and forth contest, Middlesex led by as many as 7 in the first half, only to see the Spartans grab a 10-point advantage at halftime, 46-36. The Colts rallied to take a 57-54 lead in the second half before Northampton went on a run and reclaimed the lead, eventually stretching it to the final 13-point margin.
The Spartans shot 55% from the field, while holding Middlesex to just 33%, and out-rebounded the Colts 44-29.
The Spartans placed six players in double figures, led by
Mel Copeland (Allentown, PA/William Allen) and
Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) each with18 points, while
Kymir Roper (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby,) added 13 points,
Zykir Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin Charter ) 13,
Michael Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) 10 and
Amyr Fox (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East ) 10.
Kymir Roper (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby,) hauled down a team-high 9 rebounds, followed by
Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) with 8, while
Amyr Fox (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East ) dished out 5 assists.
Northampton will now host 3rd seeded Philadelphia on Thursday evening at 7pm in the Region 19 semifinals. Philadelphia advanced to the semifinals with a 73-57 victory over 6th seeded Salem.
Northampton improves to 19-4 with the win, while Middlesex ends the season at 15-12.
