BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 10th ranked Northampton men's soccer team picked up their 6th win of the season, downing Delaware County Community College, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Hatungimana Salem (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) got the Spartans on the board first, scoring off an assist from
Nicholas McCoy (Bangor, PA/Bangor) at the 38 minute mark.
After a fairly evenly played first half, Northampton started to dominate possession in the second stanza, firing 14 shots at the Delaware County goal. The Spartans were finally able to find the back of the net at the 60 minute mark, as
Derek Filipkowski (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) scored off an assist from
Rodrigo Maguina (Peru/Easton) to make the score 2-0.
The Spartans continued to push and took a 3-0 lead when
Henry Pineda (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) scored, assisted by
Nicholas McCoy (Bangor, PA/Bangor) with 8 minutes remaining in the contest.
The Phantoms ruined the shutout bid with 6 remaining, making the final margin to 3-1.
Drake Brackett (West Easton, PA/Wilson) recorded 7 saves to earn the win in goal for the Spartans.
The win improves Northampton improves to 6-1-1 overall, while Delaware falls to 2-4-0.
Northampton returns to action on Thursday when they host Harrisburg Area Community College at 3:30pm.
