6th Ranked Spartans Edge Mercer County

Box Score TRENTON, NJ - The 6th ranked Northampton men's basketball team, which led by 13 at halftime, overcame a 5 point deficit in the final 3 minutes to down Division II Mercer County Community College, 58-57, on Tuesday evening,  The win was the 9th consecutive victory for the Spartans. 

In a tale of two halves, Northampton led 36-23 at halftime, only to see the Vikings regroup, outscoring the Spartans 34-22 in the second stanza.  

"Credit Mercer, they play a very disciplined brand of basketball, and they don't quit," remarked Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "I'm really proud of how we responded when we got down late in the game.  This type of game will help us come playoff time."

Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) led Northampton with 12 points, followed by Titus Wilkins (Easton, PA/Executive Education Academy Charter) and Mike Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) each with 11.  CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) dished out 3 assists, while Marable led the Spartans off the glass with 10 rebounds. 

Izaiah Johnson led Mercer County with 29 points, including 5 trifectas.  Mercer finished with 10 3-pointers in the contest. 

The win moves Northampton to 18-2 overall. 

Mercer falls to 8-10 with the loss. 

The Spartans are now off until Sunday January 29th, when they travel to New Rochelle, NY to face Monroe-Bronx at 3pm.
