BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a battle of NJCAA Top-15 men's basketball teams, 4th ranked Northampton downed #11 Montgomery County Community College, 76-57, on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center, extending their winning streak to 11 games.
Montgomery jumped out to an early 11-2 lead, but the Spartans did not panic, and methodically crept back into the game, eventually taking a 34-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Spartans took control of the contest, extending their lead to 25 points with 3:48 remaining in the contest, before settling for the 19-point victory.
"Really big win for us over a very good, nationally ranked, opponent," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "you have to be be prepared when you play Montgomery and I thought our guys did a good job staying focused and not getting anxious when we got down by 9 early in the contest. Our ability to dominate the backboards and limit our turnovers (9), really played a big role in the outcome."
Titus Wilkins (Easton, PA/Executive Education Academy Charter) led Northampton with 20 points and added 8 rebounds, while
Mike Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) had another double-double with 16 points and 12 boards.
Keenan Roberts Jr. (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) and
Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) each had 6 assists.
The win moves the 4th ranked Spartans to 20-2 overall, 13-1 in Region 19 and 10-0 in the EPAC.
#11 Montgomery falls to 16-4 overall, 13-4 in Region 19 and 8-2 in conference play.
The Spartans return to the hardwood on Thursday when they host RCSJ-Cumberland at 7pm.
