BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team clinched a Region 19 playoff berth with a 3-1 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Gershon Bangura (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) got the Spartans on the board early, scoring off an assist from
Jaxson Berrier (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) at the 8 minute mark of the 1st half, putting Northampton up 1-0.
Harrisburg quickly tied things up, beating Northampton goaltender
Colston Jasionowski (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with a hard blast to the upper corner at the 12 minute mark, making the score 1-1.
Berrier got the lead back for Northampton, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Ismaila Jallow (Gambia/West African International School) with 30 minutes left in the 1st half, to give the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.
Bangura put the game away for Northampton with 2 minutes remaining in the contest, netting his 2nd goal of the game off an assist from
Mario Sandy (Queens, NY/Pocono Mt. East), making the final score 3-1.
The win sends Northampton to 6-6-1 overall, 5-4-1 in Region 19 and 5-2-1 in the EPAC.
Harrisburg falls to 3-7-3 overall, 3-3-2 in Region 19 and 3-3-2 in conference play.
Next up for the Spartans will be the Region 19 Tournament, with action slated to begin Friday October 20th or Satuday October 21st. Seeding for the Region 19 Tournament is scheduled to be released on Wednesday October 18th.
