BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton Community College officially launched the sport of men's volleyball on Monday evening, with the Spartans picking up a victory over Union County College in their inaugural match, downing the Owls 3-0 at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Johnny Martinez (Northampton, PA/Northampton) led the Spartans with 10 kills, 2 solo blocks, 6 block assists and 1 service ace, while
Alexander Schoenen (Northampton, PA/Northampton) recorded 6 kills, 7 block assists, and 2 service aces.Â
Northampton found themselves down early in the first set to the Owls, but rebounded to win 25-22. The Spartans then took the second and third sets by identical 25-20 scores.Â
Ramon Romero (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Liceo Billingue) finished with 21 assists and 9 digs for Northampton.

Northampton is now 1-0 with the win, while Union falls to 1-7 overall.Â
The Spartans return to action on March 1st when they host Atlantic Cape Community College at 6pm.Â
