MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton baseball team picked up their 5th and 6th wins of their Spring Trip, downing Monroe Community College, 11-5 and 9-5, in their doubleheader on Tuesday evening.
GAME ONE - Monroe Community College (Won 11-5)
The Spartans erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the 1st and then coasted to an 11-5 victory over NJCAA Division II Monroe Community College on Tuesday evening.
Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI,
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) added 2 RBI for the Spartans.
Five pitchers combined to limit the Tribunes to 3 hits over 7 innings, recording 11 strikouts and issuing 6 walks.
Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) got the win, the starter went 3.0 innings, striking out 5.
GAME TWO - Monroe Community College (Won 9-5)
In game two, the Tribunes plated 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Spartans were able fight back and eventually take the lead in the 4th inning and hold on for the 9-5 victory and doubleheader sweep.
Daniel McEvoy (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) earned the win with 4 innings of work, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits.
Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI and
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 runs scored.
The sweep moves Northampton to 8-1 overall.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday as they are scheduled to face Rochester Community and Technical College (MN) at 1:30pm and NCAA Division II member Bryant and Stratton at 4:30pm.
