Box Score SEWELL, NJ - The Northampton baseball dropped game three of their Region 19 series vs. RCSJ-Gloucester on Monday afternoon, falling 14-2, to the #3 Roadrunners. RCSJ-Gloucester had previously won games one and two, back on March 26th.Â
After a Roadrunner run in the bottom of the 3rd, the Spartans were able to tie the contest at 1-1 when
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) tripled to lead off the 4th inning and then scored on a sacrifice fly.
RCSJ-Gloucester then exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th off reliever
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)). McGourty, who came on in relief of starter
Jeff Erschen (Walnutport, PA/Northampton), lasted 1 inning, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits.
The Roadrunners added 4 runs in the 5th and 4 runs in the 6th, to win the run rule-shortened affair, 14-2.Â
Ethan Ferraro (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) and
Ben Boyer (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) pitched the final two innings for Northampton, combining to allow 8 runs (4 earned), on 6 hits.Â
Sabater,
Gabe Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central (NJ)),
Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) and
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) each had 1 hit for the Spartans. Â
Northampton, which received votes in the latest NJCAA poll, falls to 13-9 overall and 5-7 in Region 19.
RCSJ-Gloucester improves to 19-4 overall and 7-0 in Region play.Â
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they host #6 Brookdale in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:30pm.Â
