Box Score 2 SEWELL, NJ - The 3rd seeded Northampton baseball team advanced to the Region 19 semi-finals with a win over #2 Middlesex and a loss to #1 RCSJ-Gloucester on Friday at the Region 19 Tournament.
GAME ONE vs. #2 Middlesex - Won 7-5
In game one, the Spartans fell behind 3-0 after 4 innings, but battled back in the 5th when
Gabe Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central (NJ)) scored on a two out single from
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)).Â
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) then drew a two-out based loaded walk to score
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond), cutting the deficit to 3-2.
The Spartans took a 5-3 lead in the top of the 6th as they scored 3 runs, highlighted by a RBI single from
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) and a bunt single from
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)).Â
The Colts tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th with 2 runs.Â
With the game still tied at 5-5 entering the 9th, the Spartans plated 2 runs as
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored off a
Gabe Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central (NJ)) single and
Stephen McMillan (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks - South) scored on an infield error off the bat of
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond), giving Northampton a 7-5 lead.Â
Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) got the win in relief, improving to 4-2 on the season, working 3.1 innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 3.

GAME TWO vs. #1 RCSJ-Gloucster - Lost 10-0 (6 innings)
In game two, Roadrunner starter Danny Sweeney kept the Spartan bats at bay, allowing only 2 hits in the 6-inning shutout victory.Â
Ryan Gordon (New Cumberland, PA/Red Land) took the loss for Northampton, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 10 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits, with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)) had Northampton's only 2 hits.Â
