MEDIA, Pa. -
Nic McCoy (Bangor, PA/Bangor) scored 2 goals to help lead the Northampton Men's Soccer team to a season-opening 2-0 victory over Delaware County Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Phantom Field.
McCoy, a First Team All-EPAC selection last season, opened the scoring at the 30 minute mark of the first half, converting a penalty kick, after
Gershon Bangura (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) was taken down in the box, giving Northampton a 1-0 advantage.Â
Northampton controlled more of the action in the second half, keeping possession of the ball with more sideline to sideline movement. The constant pressure from the Spartans led to a foul just outside the box, which McCoy curled past the outstretched hands of the Delaware goalkeeper, beating him to the upper 90 for a 2-0 Northampton lead.
Goalkeeper
John Stier (Northampton, PA/Northampton) notched 4 saves between the pipes to record his first collegiate shutout.
The Spartans, the two-time defending EPAC Champions, improve to 1-0-0 on the season, while Delaware falls to 0-4-0.Â
Northampton is back in action on Thursday in their home opener when they host Penn State - Lehigh Valley at 3:30pm.Â
