Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. - The 7th ranked Northampton men's basketball team picked up their 8th conference win of the season on Thursday evening, downing Thaddeus Stevens College, 83-75, at TSC Arena.
After a defensive first half which saw the Spartans take a 32-29 lead to the locker room, the two EPAC rivals exploded for high-scoring second half, with Northampton outscoring the Bulldogs, 51-46.
Elijah Hamilton (Atglen, PA/Octorara Jr/Sr) led Northampton with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds,
Nate Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 19 points, including an 8 for 9 effort from the charity stripe.
"Good road win tonight over a tough Thaddeus Stevens team," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "It's always a 40 minute battle against them, but I was really pleased with how our guys competed and made big plays on both ends of the floor."
The win was Northampton's 10th straight over Thaddeus Stevens, improving their all-time mark vs. the Bulldogs to 23-3.
Arkel Batts (Middletown, PA/Middletown) added 12 points and
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) handed out 6 assists for the victors.
The win moves Northampton to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in the EPAC.
*Note - this game was not a Region 19 contest, the first match-up on December 2nd was the designated Region contest.
Stevens falls to 5-11 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
The Spartans continue their road trip on Saturday as they will head north to Newton, NJ to face Sussex County Community College at 2pm in a Region 19 tilt.
