BLUE BELL, Pa. - In a match-up of Top-15 programs, 6th ranked Montgomery County Community College held off the #13 Northampton men's basketball team, 91-80, on Saturday afternoon at the Health Sciences Center.
Montgomery took a double-digit lead midway through the second half, but the Spartans cut the margin to 85-80 with just over 2 minutes remaining, before John Dinolfi drilled his 4th 3-pointer, giving the Mustangs an 88-80 lead, and ultimately closing the door on the Spartans.
"Unforced errors and some missed opportunities at the line really hurt us today," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "those things will always hurt you, but they are very tough to overcome vs. a team like Montgomery." The Spartans finished 13 of 25 at the line, while Montgomery was 11 of 16.
Nasir Ruhani (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) scored 25 points to lead Northampton, while
Josh Washington (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) added 13 and
Abdul Jackson (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) chipped in with 12.
Sean Emfinger led Montgomery with 30 points.
The 13th ranked Spartans fall to 11-2 overall, 7-2 in Region 19 and 3-1 in the EPAC.
Montgomery improves to 8-2 overall, 7-1 in the Region and 6-0 in conference play.
The Spartans are now off until January 9th when they host Lehigh Carbon Community College.
