BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Abdul Jackson (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) hit a 3-pointer as time expired to send the game to overtime and the Northampton men's basketball team outscored Camden County College, 16-14, in the extra stanza to down the Cougars, 78-76, and remain unbeaten on the season.
Camden held a 16 point lead with 13:29 remaining in the 2nd half, but the Spartans battled back behind 23 points from
Nasir Ruhani (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) and an 18 point 9 rebound effort from Jackson.
"Great resolve tonight," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we jumped out early, but Camden is so scrappy, they make you earn everything. I thought our defense in the second half was the turning point, as offensively we never really got into a rhythm. Credit Abdul on that jumper to tie the game and then I thought we really controlled the overtime period."
Ameer Herran (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) finished with 12 points and 12 boards and
Ethan Sakwa (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mountain West) added 10 for the Spartans.
The win moves the 12th ranked Spartans to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in Region 19.
Camden, which received votes in the latest poll, drops to 5-3 overall and 5-3 in the Region.
The Spartans continue their homestand on Thursday when they host Passaic County Community College at 7pm.Â
