Box Score MAYS LANDING, NJ - The Northampton men's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Tuesday evening, falling to 3rd seeded Atlantic Cape Community College, 79-76, in the Region 19 quarterfinals at Buccaneer Arena.
The Spartans fought back from a 10-point halftime deficit to cut the margin to just 3 with under 3 minutes to play, but the Buccaneers were able to hold off the Spartans, including a last second 3-point attempt, to claim the victory.
"Disappointing to see it end, but proud of how the guys fought," responded Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "credit Atlantic Cape, they have a very good team and made some plays down the stretch to hold us off."
Elijah Hamilton (Atglen, PA/Octorara Jr/Sr) led Northampton with 30 points and 11 rebounds, while
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) added 20 points, 9 assists and 5 boards and
Nate Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) finished with 13 points.
In what was a tight battle throughout, both teams finished with 26 field goals, Atlantic Cape had 19 free throws, Northampton made 20 free throws, but the Buccaneers connected on 8 shots from long distance, while the Spartans finished with 4.
Northampton finishes the season at 20-10 overall.
Atlantic Cape, now 21-10, advances to the Region 19 Final Four, where they will face 2nd seeded Montgomery County Community College.
