SEWELL, NJ - #5 Northampton and #1 RCSJ-Gloucester split the first two games of their Region 19 series on Friday, with the Roadrunners taking game one 6-2 and the Spartans battling back to win game two 6-3 at Roadrunner Park.
GAME ONE - Lost 6-2
The Spartans struck first in game one, putting two runs on the board in the 2nd inning, but the Roadrunners answered with 3 runs in the 3rd and then held Northampton scoreless the remainder of the game to earn the 6-2 win.
Ethan Woods (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) took the loss on the mound, falling to 3-1 on the season. Woods went 4 innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits, walking 4 and striking out 2..
Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) pitched a scoreless 5th and 6th, fanning 3.
Peter Hrousis (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was 1 for 2 with a double and
Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) finished 1 for 3 with a homerun and a RBI.
GAME TWO - Won 6-3
In game two, the Spartans rode the right arm of starter
Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) who scattered 8 hits over 6 innings of work, allowing 3 runs while striking out 10 Roadrunners. Beard earned the win, improving to 4-1 on the season.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) picked up the save, throwing a scoreless 7th inning.
Ratti did it at the plate as well, gong 2 for 4 with a stolen base and 2 RBI and
Peter Hrousis (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished 3 for 3 with a homerun, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Spartans move to 16-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 19.
RCSJ-Gloucester is now 19-3 overall and 14-2 in Region play.
The two heavyweights will finish their 3-game series on Monday, as the Roadrunners will travel to Bethlehem for a single 9-inning affair, scheduled for 3:30pm.
